Another good post via NPR highlighting a school program to bring school gardens to intercity schools. Many students who attend these schools are low-income and have little access to healthy food choices. One student accounts, “We mainly live around liquor stores and snack stores. There aren’t that many grocery stores. They’re way out, and you have to drive so far.” To many of these children gardening is a foreign concept but is fundamental for a sustainable and healthy future.
A teacher in the article puts it nicely saying, “The payoff is exponential, because they’ll be young mothers or young fathers someday, and they’ll feed their children based on what they’ve learned now,”
