FAQ

General Questions

What is holistic medicine?

Holistic medicine is a natural approach to health care that considers the whole person, including their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being, rather than focusing solely on symptoms or specific health issues. This type of medicine is designed to be highly individualized.

Does natural medicine really work?

Natural medicine can be effective for various health conditions, especially when used in complement with conventional medicine. The effectiveness often depends on the type and quality of the natural remedy – as well as the specific health issue. Additionally, natural medicine is dependent on the individual’s commitment to making the recommended dietary and lifestyle changes necessary to improve their health.

What is considered a natural medication?

Natural medications generally include remedies derived from plants, minerals, or animals. These can be in the form of herbs, supplements, essential oils, and other substances found in nature, used for therapeutic purposes.

What are the advantages of natural medicine over conventional medicine?

Natural medicine often focuses on prevention and is intended to address the root causes of health issues. Most natural medications tend to have fewer side effects and can be more gentle on the body compared to some conventional medicines.

What symptoms can natural medicine help manage?

Natural medicine can help manage a wide range of symptoms, including pain, inflammation, stress, anxiety, digestive issues, and fatigue. It often aims to improve overall wellness and balance in the body.

What is the most powerful natural medication?

The term “most powerful” can vary based on the condition and symptoms. However, some widely respected natural remedies include turmeric for inflammation, ginger for nausea, and garlic for its antimicrobial properties.

What are the negative effects of herbs?

Herbs can have side effects, especially if not used correctly. These can include allergic reactions, interactions with conventional medications, and potential toxicity in high doses or with prolonged use. When you work with a natural medicine doctor, they will discuss your known allergies and check if there are negative interactions to certain herbs – and make sure they are used properly.

Which is considered a disadvantage of natural herbs on the market?

A key disadvantage of natural herbs on the market is the lack of regulation and standardization, which can lead to variability in quality, potency, and safety of herbal products. At Ponderosa Natural Medicine, we work with suppliers that prioritize quality and specialize in natural remedies to ensure patients get the best results.

What are the challenges of herbal medicine?

Some of the biggest challenges of herbal medicine include guaranteeing the quality and consistency of herbs, understanding and managing potential interactions with other medications, and limited scientific research to support efficacy and safety for certain herbs.

We require a minimum notice period of 48 hours for the cancellation of any booked appointment. The fee for the first instance of a late change to an appointment is $50.00, with a $100 fee for each subsequent late change, and a charge equal to 100% of the appointment cost for all instances of failing to notify us or not showing up.

These cancellation rules are in place to ensure that our patients can secure appointments when necessary and display a mutual respect for the time of both parties.

For new patients, the requirement to give notice also applies if the paperwork needed for the first visit is not completed on time. We will contact you two days before your appointment to facilitate the completion of this paperwork. Should we not receive the paperwork or manage to communicate with you within 24 hours of your appointment, a $50.00 fee for late cancellation will be applied. If your lab work is incomplete, we urge you to get in touch with us at your earliest convenience to arrange a new appointment time.

We will also reach out to you two days prior if we have not received your lab results. However, it is ultimately the responsibility of the patient to ensure that lab work is completed promptly.
